Are you using Let's Encrypt?

If so you might be interested in acme-tiny. It is a 200 lines of code client to handle the installation and renewal of your LE SSL certs.

There is a one-time requirement to convert the account_key from JWK to PEM. After that everything can be automated through scripts & cron.

I like that acme-tiny is: standalone, small & so easy to review. Installable via Pip, apt-get and probably other package managers.

I saw this article posted on HN, and it's a really interesting read. I saw a video a while back that showed just how far you can go with just built in #vim features, and it inspired me to trim my init.vim (I use #neovim) down and remove a whole mess of plugins, but I still have some kicking around. I don't think it's a worthwhile goal to not run *any* plugins, but this shows you don't need hundreds of lines in your vimrc.

So the government of Kazakhstan is MITM'ing all SSL'ed traffic lobste.rs/s/uqj8nq/mitm_on_all

The way they are doing this is by adding a Certificate Authority (CA) that allows them to snoop all traffic.

This is, by the way, why SSL is criticized as being "only as secure as the weakest CA in your system". Here it's deliberate, but that's a problem in general.

It would be better if the internet were modeled off of something like Tor .onion services, where you *know* you have a secure path, because the address is literally the fingerprint of the server. "But how can I make sense of which site is which?" You guessed it, petnames github.com/cwebber/rebooting-t

And, bookmarks *are* petnames, with a minor UI tweak w3.org/2005/Security/usability

The DNS + SSL CA model puts users at risk. I hope we can move past it.

There are millions of smartphones produced with high-resolution displays that use very little power. These panels must be dirt cheap.

Yet, I cannot find a portable display that uses such a small panel.

I'd really like to have a portable external monitor, around 5 inches, powered by USB with HDMI + VGA inputs (even HDMI only would be ok).

I'm more than happy with 1280x720 resolution, even 1024x768 would suffice.

Any hints for such a product?

Yesterday, I moved the last of my websites from Python 2 to Python 3. ๐ŸŽ‰ :python:

I can't pretend it was fun, it was a real chore. However, now that the work is done I'm feeling kind of smug.

Python 2: you've been great, I'll miss you old friend. Thanks for the years of sterling work.
